What I've learned during the 2-month shutdown....
It’s hard to believe that 2 months have gone by since New Orleans, and much of the country, has been isolated during a stay-at-home order from their city or state government. Like many people, I’ve had so much time to reflect on a variety of topics in my life. As far as my business is concerned, here are some of the things I have learned:
ZOOM isn’t just a fun place to connect with friends on virtual happy hour, but a fantastic tool to promote time savings and efficiency. Sometimes it makes you wonder why we all spend so much time sitting in traffic and driving our calls to make face to face appointments, when you can often accomplish the same task by logging onto your computer. While both traditional and virtual meetings will always be an important part of business, the Zoom Call phenomenon has forced many of us to use technology in order to make our business lives more efficient.
Networking! There’s simply no replacement in business for having a deep, broad network of relationships to help grow your business. After all, who can advocate for your work better than someone you currently do business with? Personally, I’ve benefited the most from:
Business Networking International (BNI)
New Orleans Chamber of Commerce
Simple is as simple does, as Forrest Gump may say. Years later, it turns out Tom Hanks character may have been right about simplicity. Whether it’s business or personal life, simplifying things in your every day work can be incredibly beneficial. Here’s a Ted Talk from Dan Buettner, who is an expert on this topic, and the author of the book Blue Zones.
